“It’s the healthiest thing I can think of to drink,” says Christopher Ochner, PhD. He’s a research scientist in nutrition at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Green Tea Advantages

“It’s all about the catechin content,” says Beth Reardon, RD, a Boston nutritionist.

The health benefits of green tea  are basically due to its high content of antioxidants. This is because green tea is not processed much before it’s poured in your cup. Green tea is the best food source of a group called catechins. These catechins are over 100 times more effective in neutralizing oxidative damage to cells. They also appear to have other disease-fighting properties. Moreover, a 2013 review of many studies found green tea as prevention to a range of heart-related issues.

In 1994 the Journal of the National Cancer Institute published the results of an epidemiological study indicating that drinking green tea reduced the risk of oesophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent.

Plus, Green tea is a source of caffeine which stimulates the nervous system, heart, and muscles by amplifying the release of certain chemicals in the brain.

Researchers have revealed that green tea has various health benefits that help to improve blood flow and lower cholesterol.

In one Swiss study, MRIs revealed that people who drank green tea had greater activity in the working-memory area of their brains.

Green tea helps maintain blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. Furthermore, catechins lower cholesterol and blood pressure, so they can help protect against the effects of a high-fat diet.

Green Tea For Weight Loss

Evidences suggest that, EGCG, an active ingredient in green tea may help you drop a few pounds. Green tea is a smart swap for sugary drinks. One can lose nearly 50 pounds if taken as an alternative over soda or other beverages.

“All things being equal, if you sub 1-2 cups of green tea for one can of soda, over the next year you’d save over 50,000 calories,” Ochner says.

Advantages of green tea are countless. However, it’s very obvious that no single food will protect us totally from any disease. Our health is wrapped up our lifestyle and food habits. Hence, you also need to take care of yourself in other ways too, like exercising and eating a balanced diet.
